The purpose of Willow Tree Life Ministries is to help youth who have aged out of foster care to develop resilient lives of growth, healing and connection by providing life skills training and help in dealing with past traumas in a family setting.
My objective is to give them resources that will keep them from becoming vulnerable to poverty and homelessness and all the things that often go along with that.
We plan to start with one or two young ladies in our home. The program would eventually be open to young men as well. I find that family and permanency is paramount. Therefore, we plan to offer the program in the context of family living. When they leave our home we would offer support to set them up in an apartment. They would continue to have us as family for follow-up, a safety net, support and advice. Expansion of the program would be in inviting other families to open their home to a young person, and going through the program together with them as a group.
I am excited for this new venture.
